Improving the Dimensional Accuracy of Engineering Plastic Parts Manufactured by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D Printing

The current state of the use of additive FDM 3D printing technologies in the manufacturing of mating (interfacing) components made of engineering plastics has been investigated. The possibility of improving the geometric accuracy of plastic parts through the application of an enhanced 3D printing process has been substantiated. An improved methodology for evaluating the quality of manufactured parts is proposed, in particular with regard to the compliance of their actual geometric parameters with those specified in a specially developed 3D model. Additionally, recommendations have been developed for the selection of 3D printing parameters and for the adaptation of technological approaches to the fabrication of components from various grades of engineering plastics.
